Extend the Life of Your Bouquet: Simple Tips for Lasting Freshness
A bouquet of fresh flowers is a delightful addition to any home, bringing vibrant colors and fragrances into your living space. At The Bloom Room, your trusted florist in Melbourne, we understand the desire to keep these beautiful blooms looking their best for as long as possible. Here are some simple yet effective tips to help you enjoy your flowers for longer.
Before arranging your bouquet, ensure that your vase is thoroughly cleaned. Use warm, soapy water to remove any bacteria that could shorten the lifespan of your flowers. Likewise, use clean, sharp scissors or pruning shears to trim the stems, which helps prevent damage and allows for better water absorption.
Cut the stems at a 45-degree angle under running water. This technique prevents air bubbles from forming in the stems, which can block water absorption. Aim to trim about one inch from the bottom of each stem, and remember to re-trim them every few days to maintain optimal water uptake.
Leaves submerged in water can decay and promote bacterial growth, which can harm your flowers. Carefully remove any leaves that would be below the water line in your vase to keep the water clean and your flowers healthy.
When you order flowers online from The Bloom Room, we provide a packet of flower food with your bouquet. This food contains essential nutrients to help your flowers thrive. Be sure to follow the instructions on the packet and add the right amount to the water in your vase.
Fresh water is crucial for the longevity of your bouquet. Replace the water every two to three days, making sure to clean the vase and add fresh flower food each time. This practice helps to reduce bacteria and keep your flowers hydrated.
Place your bouquet in a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts. Excessive heat can cause flowers to wilt more quickly, so aim to keep them in a room with a stable, moderate temperature.
